Om Ham Hrim Aum Hrim Sadashivaya Swaha 

 

 

         “Om” here is a way of praying.  “O” is the sound and symbol of the Eternal Godhead.  “M”, or the drawn out “Mmmm...” is a sound we make while we are loving.  “Ham” is a “bija” or seed, mantra of visudhi chakra, the throat chakra.  When spoken, it is said to cause you to resonate with the energy of the chakra.  That energy is activated by the sound. 

 

         “Hrim” humbles us before Godhead, and makes us lovingly submissive to obedience, like a good boy. 

 

         “Aum” consists of three syllables, A, U, and M.  A (ah) should be thought of as representing Lord Brahma, the Creator.  U (oo), represents Lord Vishnu, the Imaginer, who sustains and preserves the universe by the power of His imagination.  M (mm) represents Lord Shiva, the Lord of goodness.  (Like when we eat ice cream, we say ‘Mmmm.  This is good!”) 

 

 

Subjective Dimension:  Think of "Ham" as the ham (thigh) you are about to drape yourself over to receive a correction from your discipliner.  Then, when you say "Hrim" , which is perfect humility, you are actually coming close to that perfect attitude.
